Types of writing I've done in the past week:
Texting
Instagram
Grocery List
Calendar notes
Order Tickets
Notes for school
Minutes for meetings
Essay
Texting is making a conversation with someone and is a very informal type of writing using emoji's, abbreviations, poor grammar, and possibly pictures.
A grocery list is a list that most likely only I will see and use, it is also informal.
An essay is a more formal type of writing and follows certain guidelines.
Texting:
I know when I'm texting my boyfriend it is an informal and lighthearted conversation. I know that my audience(my boyfriend) is expecting humor, abbreviations, emoji's, things of the sort. I use a light tone. But, last week, I needed his help building a desk. So, I had to be a little more persuasive and convince him to help me. I explained to him what the task was, how long it would take, and how much his help would mean to me. We were still texting about the situation so I still used abbreviations, poor punctuation, and average texting etiquette.
Grocery List:
I was making a grocery list that most likely only I would see since I was buying my own groceries.
I titled the list of items and proceeded to write out all the things I needed from the store. Certain things I doodled small pictures next to to help me remember what brand or size to get. My list did not have much of a writing tone stance since I really just needed some groceries. My main purpose of the list was to remember all things I needed from the store.
Essay:
The essay I wrote was about a response to a news report. My audience was my teacher, so I used proper formatting, grammar, and punctuation. My goal was to explain my position on the news article and if I felt the article was biased. I did not need to persuade my teacher to agree with my opinion, just explain it. My tone was serious in a sense that I did not use any type of humor or write as if speaking with my friends. But, I used a medium tone, given I was explaining my response to the topic and article.

Is Everyone an Author?
First, before you can decide if everyone is an author, you need to know what exactly an author is. An author is a writer that publishes their work or takes ownership over their words. So, what is a writer? A writer is someone that records or makes conversation. Writing is a way of communicating with others. Usually, writing is part of a bigger conversation with other people, where as an author publishes and owns his or her work, most likely to show or explain something.
So, is everyone an author? Well, if they make a Facebook post, compose a news article, send a story around the world, or write a speech for many to hear than yes they are an author. But not everyone does these things, or things of the sort. So what does that make them? Writers. Anyone and everyone is a writer but not absolutely everyone publishes their work.
Most people don't even notice when they are classified as an author. For example, someone sending a letter in the mail to a friend could be sent around the country or even world for many to read. That letter could be posted on Facebook or even in a newspaper. Now the writer of that letter having a conversation with a friend is an author.
My concluding answer to this question is everyone has the opportunity and capability of becoming an author by doing very simple things, but not everyone chooses to share or publish their work, which makes those people writers. Now, the book explains everyone IS an author, whether it be a researcher, student, or everyday citizen, they are authors without even realizing it. But I slightly disagree, given the definitions for authors and writers.

Collaborative writing on writing
Collaborative Writing on Writing
1.) Writing is a way to express your thoughts and feelings on paper. It can also be helpful to work out thoughts that would otherwise be harder to explain.
2.) Expository and persuasive writing are prompts formally given in high school, however we typically would agree, that it is easiest to write in the first person, about past personal experiences. Journalism and recording events on paper or on the computer are previously used forms of writing.
3.) Our tone changes depending on our audience, such as if we are writing to friends, or if we are writing a formal English 101 essay. For example, if you are reading an essay or paper to friends, you are very casual. If you are reading an essay or paper to a class or teacher, you are a bit more formal.
